Office deep cleaning

One-off office deep cleans covering high-level dust, behind furniture, appliances, washroom descaling and floors. What is included and typical UK costs.

In short: An office deep clean is a one-off, top-to-bottom clean that covers the areas regular visits do not reach, such as high-level surfaces, behind and under furniture, inside appliances and limescale in washrooms. It suits offices starting a new cleaning contract, reopening after a quiet period or recovering from neglect. In the UK it typically costs £200 to £400 for a small office of around 100 m² and £400 to £800 for a medium office of around 250 m².

Even a well-run daily cleaning contract leaves some areas untouched, because there is not time on every visit to move furniture, dust light fittings or descale washrooms properly. Over months, dust settles on top of cabinets and partitions, grime builds up along skirting boards and under desks, and kitchen appliances collect grease and spills inside. A deep clean resets all of that in one go, usually with a larger team working out of hours or over a weekend.

A deep clean works best as the starting point for a new regular contract, because it brings the office up to a standard that routine visits can then maintain. It is also commonly booked before a client visit or inspection, after a period of reduced occupancy, when moving into an office that was left in poor condition, or when standards under a previous cleaner have slipped. The scope is agreed in advance room by room, so you know exactly which tasks are included.

What is included

  • High-level dusting of light fittings, air vents, tops of cupboards, partitions and window frames
  • Cleaning skirting boards, door frames, doors and radiators throughout
  • Moving light furniture where practical to vacuum and mop underneath and behind
  • Kitchen appliances cleaned inside and out, including fridges, microwaves, dishwashers and kettles
  • Washroom descaling of toilets, urinals, taps, tiles and glass, plus thorough disinfection
  • Detailed cleaning of chairs, desk legs, cable trays and the undersides of worktops
  • Internal glass, glazed partitions and meeting room screens cleaned to a smear-free finish
  • Edges and corners of floors cleaned by hand, with carpet or hard floor treatment added if booked

Who it is for

  • Offices about to start a new regular cleaning contract
  • Businesses reopening after a holiday shutdown or long period of low occupancy
  • Offices preparing for a client visit, audit, sale or inspection
  • Teams moving into premises left dirty by a previous occupier
  • Sites where standards have slipped under a previous cleaner

How much does it cost?

As a guide, a UK office deep clean usually costs £200 to £400 for a small office of around 100 m² and £400 to £800 for around 250 m², with heavily soiled sites, very high ceilings or carpet extraction costing more. See our full cost guide.

How it works

  1. Scope and photos

Photos or a walk-round show the condition of each area, so the team size, hours and any specialist kit are planned correctly.

  2. Out-of-hours booking

The clean is booked for an evening, weekend or quiet day, and staff are asked to clear desks and remove personal items.

  3. Top-down clean

The team works from high level down, so dust falls onto floors that are cleaned last, finishing with washrooms and kitchens.

  4. Walk-through

The finished office is checked against the agreed scope, and any missed items are put right before handover.

Office deep cleaning: FAQs

How long does an office deep clean take?

A small office of around 100 m² is usually done by a team of two or three in a single evening or day. A medium or large office may need a full weekend or several evenings working floor by floor. The time depends heavily on how much furniture there is, how dirty the washrooms and kitchens are, and whether carpet cleaning is included in the same visit.

How often should an office have a deep clean?

Many offices book one or two deep cleans a year, often timed around a summer or Christmas shutdown. Offices with heavy use, such as busy call centres or sites with many visitors, may benefit from one every quarter. If your regular contract includes good monthly periodic tasks, you will need deep cleans less often.

Do we need to move anything before the deep clean?

Staff should clear desk surfaces, take personal items home or store them in drawers, and empty the fridge of anything they want to keep. Cleaners will usually move light furniture but not IT equipment, heavy cabinets or anything fixed. Let the team know about any sensitive equipment or areas they must not enter.

Is a deep clean the same as a disinfection or sanitisation service?

Not exactly. A deep clean removes dirt, dust and grime from everywhere, and includes disinfecting washrooms, kitchens and touch points. A specialist disinfection service, sometimes using fogging, is aimed at reducing germs after a known outbreak. In most offices thorough cleaning followed by disinfecting high-touch surfaces is what is needed.
